What a wonderful eating experience! Pedro worked magic! We are definitely using La Bodega again. Pedro catered a casual outdoor office dinner party for 35 at the end of summer at a colleague's residence. We ordered paella, a sliced ham and cheese platter, and gazpacho. The gazpacho came in little bottles and was served as a delicious cold drink. The big hit for everyone was the vegetarian paella, which was extraordinarily flavorful. Everyone had third servings. Somehow it arrived hot and stayed hot which is sometimes difficult to maintain in those aluminum trays, without the food getting dry.. I think that rice dishes are just naturally the perfect food for large parties. The juxtaposition of the cold paella and the hot yummy rice, drenched in a deep subtle saffron sauce was sublime. The ham and cheese platter (served with French bread slices) was also quite complementary and worked well both as an appetizer or as a side dish to the paella. Both the cheese and ham were imported from Spain. The menu is a real upgrade to the typical chicken and veggie fare of most office parties. Extremely top quality food. Pedro also stay a bit to explain his craft and the origin of the food. One suggestion - the paella drink worked really well, but an alternative would be to serve it traditionally as a soup in a cup, with freshly cut vegetables as condiments. That would be great too! Next time I'm looking forward to try the seafood paella which just makes my water already!

The hype is real!! Pedro is the embodiment of hospitality and passion for food. His sandwich philosophy (less is more) bears out in practice, and this is coming from someone who typically checks every topping and add on for a sandwich. Pedro sadly leaving for Chicago sometime in July (will ask for the exact date next time). I am reluctant to leave a review because La Bodega still feels like a medium level secret, and I don’t like lines. But every non-vegan in town deserves the special experience of visiting the store and relearning to savor food. I doubted anyone could “recreate Spain” in the basement of Dewitt, but Pedro’s warmth lights up the space!
