On paper, La Durée is 2 stars; one of the best restaurants in Flanders. I had already been there in 2012 and came back with a mixed impression. Well yes, very good at times but never exceptional. I must admit that my assessment is identical this time again. The room is beautiful and zen, shabby here and there (carpet worn in places, decor a little banal). The garden is pretty but small and limited on the left by an ugly fence and on the other by an ugly concrete staircase. Menus printed on small papers that are not beautiful or neat. Anyway, we’re coming for the plate. Three very pleasant appetizers. Excellent and surprising tomato tartare. Magnificent langoustine (really) but with Burrata and caviar on the side, neither of which makes much sense on the plate. Mini vegetable pizza very difficult to cut. Besides that, a sublime fish (but the red mullet on the menu is replaced by turbot - we didn't complain, but this should be noted when ordering). And a magnificent beef with a potato lasagna to die for (we asked for a special). Top dessert and sweets. The main drama is the wine list. Rickety, old-fashioned and totally insufficient at this level. One star yes, two definitely not.
