A RUSTIC ENVIRONMENT La Nuova Locanda del Vicerè is a small trattoria located near Erba, more precisely in the town of Albavilla. It is a place that is not easily accessible, as it is wedged in a mountain area which can only be reached via a small road with several bends: ergo, if you don't know it, you will never go there. I went - on recommendation - with a group of friends and all in all we were satisfied. Don't expect a respectable and chic location, obviously, we are talking about a typical mountain refuge, so at the entrance you will be welcomed by a rustic environment with benches and wooden walls, which however gives that sense of "warmth". The menu is not huge but includes all the typical mountain dishes, including wild boar with polenta or pasta with various mushroom-type sauces. The appetizer includes cured meats (very good) accompanied by truly fantastic cheeses and polenta crostini with lard, I then continued with some ravioli with meat sauce (which I must say did not stand out, in fact it was normal) and stewed wild boar with polenta (tasty and good as well as abundant, non-lumpy polenta, it was fine). Dessert skipped because I didn't have too much room, to finish with coffee and a shot of Genepì. House wine which, it must be admitted, was good (usually the house wines are a bit like a meal, let's say, or in any case not like those in the bottle). The service was attentive and the owner kind to stop for a chat, the only minus given that it was a bit slow compared to standards; aligned prices - neither exaggerated nor cheap - I would say fair. Overall, it's not that wow place that sticks in your mind but you feel good there, you eat well and therefore I recommend it.
