Took a long time to choose my lunch but plumped for bangers and mash and my friend chose fish and chips. Hers arrived first and looked really forest and appetising. Unfortunately can't say the same about mine. 3 sausages that looked as if they had been boiled. Colourless and pretty tasteless and the skins were really. The mash was dried out and the peas were certain not fresh. I did not complain and ate it as don't like wasting food. I spent nearly £20 for that and a coke but was definitely not worth it. Food was good but menu is very limited. Car park is a nightmare. Felt a bit dodgy on arrival - could do with a deep clean. Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

1.5 / 5 Stars This afternoon, my family and I decided to pop into The Lansdown for lunch. We’ve visited plenty of times before for drinks and evening entertainment, and that side of things has generally been fine. Food, however, was a first for us… and sadly, likely the last. Our table went for a decent mix: the chicken, bacon and cheese fillet with chips, a steak and ale pie, and the three small plates for £16 — Japanese chicken, cheesy potatoes and halloumi fries. On paper, it sounded like a solid spread. In reality, not so much. After a 35–40 minute wait, the food finally arrived, and every single dish was stone cold. Not “could do with being warmer,” not “sat a minute too long,” but genuinely cold. If the food had been warm or even room temperature, I’d happily say so, but that simply wasn’t the case. We politely raised this with the staff. Initially, we were offered a round of drinks as compensation, which might have softened the blow had we not already paid for our drinks — and had the Guinness not been a crime against stout. Shortly after, all of our meals were refunded via the app and the food was taken away, with no offer to remake or re-fire the order. While a refund is appreciated, when you go out for lunch most people would rather leave with a full stomach than their money back. The whole thing felt like once the refund was processed, the issue would be quietly brushed aside and forgotten, which put a real dampener on the afternoon. On a personal note, I’d driven over 125 miles that day to see my mum and brothers and then had to drive the same distance back again. Doing that on an empty stomach certainly left more than just a gap in the day. I don’t see myself returning to The Lansdown for food anytime soon. If I do stop by again, it’ll be for a pint — although next time I’ll probably choose a cider. There’s a better chance that will be poured correctly.
