Maison Bastille is a lovely, light and simply stunning little cafe and deli with a tasty breakfast offering - including homemade jams and interesting juices. On my last day in Paris during a recent trip to the French capital, I was walking from my Airbnb room around Bastille towards the centre, when I stumbled across this little place in a side street. Maison Bastille looked so beautiful from the outside that I decided to give it a try and have breakfast there. The place is very bright, with white paint and light wood dominating the interior. The design is modern, it combines simple, clean lines with colourful flowers. I ordered bread and jam, and was impressed to hear that they make all the jams in-house. The owner brought over three large pots of jam, one was apricot mixed with something I forgot, the other one was apple and cinnamon, and the third one which I did not try, was green tomato, as far as I remember. The bread was delicious and the jams tasted just amazing. To add something typical French, as suggested by the woman running the shop, I also had a soft-boiled egg with bread buttered strips for breakfast. It was nice with the runny egg yolk just right for dipping. As unconventional as the jams were also the juices. When I went there, she had prepared a strawberry and apple juice - a funny mix that actually tasted nice. What a great find - Maison Bastille is definitely an excellent spot for a relaxed and very delicious breakfast. They also offer decent coffee - I tried a blend from the same roaster at a different shop and really liked it.
