As thanksgiving guests, I can't say we were welcomed as hoped by the hostess. Even though we were on time and happy to be there she informed us our table was not ready and to wait at the bar. When i mentioned the bar was full she looked at me like I was a dumb jerk and repeated herself. We shuffled over to the bar umwelcomed to be received and saddened by her rude unhospitable service. The bartender and waiter were def better the food was good but over salted a few parts and my tea was poured unsteeped. Its was a bummer after we gave it another shot after last year's terrrrrible christmas eve service. Why is good service and hospitality so difficult to find from professionals?!?! Used to be a fav but we give up!

We had brunched at the former location of Maialino and hadn't been particularly impressed - it always seemed to scream "hotel restaurant," meaning the vibe was a little sterile. But a quiet Sunday during Memorial Day weekend seemed like the perfect opportunity to give Maialino (Vicino) another try - for dinner, this time. The room, also adjacent to a hotel, was attractive, with a beautiful marble bar, (very) low lighting, and the suggestion of Rome. Service was welcoming, and the sommelier appeared after we had studied the wine list for a while. Bread and olive oil got us off to a good start. Vitello Tonnato was a corrective experience after recently tasting a lousy version - the crispy fried capers made the dish. I was blown away by the chicken liver mousse - light as a cloud and utterly decadent. A salad with crunchy breadcrumbs was good, if a little salty. Seemed to promise good things...and then the pastas arrived. The Amatriciana was the better of the two, although I was not a fan of the overly bright and acidic sauce. The Carbonara was an atrocity, swimming in a sauce that had little to do with eggs, and with far too many peppercorns. Entrees looked good, but we didn't order those. An enjoyable, if unspectacular olive oil cake closed the meal. The bartender was obviously in a hurry to start breaking down the bar, as we were given the dessert menu before we finished our wine - something that would never happen in Rome.
