Matcha - It’s dull, bitter, watery and has almost no flavour. I was told they make it up in batches. Matcha looses its flavour after 20-30 mins of mixing the powder.. if you can’t make it properly then take it off your menu. I hate being ripped off! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £10–20

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the M&S cafe and it was truly an experience to remember. From the moment we walked through the heavy oak doors, we were greeted with a warmth that set the tone for the entire evening. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern elegance—think exposed brick walls, soft amber lighting, and plush velvet seating that makes you want to linger for hours.We started our meal with the charred octopus, which was served alongside a vibrant lemon-infused hummus and crispy chickpeas. The octopus was incredibly tender, with just the right amount of smokiness from the grill. For the main course, I opted for the braised short rib. It was spectacular; the meat literally fell apart at the touch of a fork and was served over a bed of creamy, buttery polenta that soaked up the rich red wine reduction. My companion had the wild mushroom risotto, which was earthy, fragrant, and cooked to a perfect al dente.What truly elevated the night, however, was the service. Our server, Marcus, was attentive without being overbearing and had an impressive knowledge of the wine list, helping us select a bold Malbec that paired beautifully with our mains. Despite the restaurant being nearly full, our water glasses were never empty, and the courses arrived at a leisurely, well-timed pace.While the pricing is on the higher end, the quality of the ingredients and the level of care in every detail make it well worth the cost. It is the ideal spot for a romantic anniversary or a celebratory dinner with close friends. I will certainly be returning to try their dessert menu soon.
