I’ve been a regular customer since the cafe was in the previous location. Since moving to the larger space, which is in a more central location, the service has been seriously declining. At first I gave them the benefit of the doubt since I assumed the business was struggling with the scale change. Most recently, I visited on a Friday morning shortly after opening. I think I was the second or third customer to enter the store. My food was served immediately. It was ok - croissant was great but it seemed the eggs and bacon were microwaved. My latte took more than 20 minutes to be served. After finishing my food, I asked if my order could be changed to to-go. The cashier was distracted and said they were backed up, etc. I would estimate a total of 5 other people seated in the store, 2 standing for to-go drinks, all of whom had also been waiting 20+ minutes for their drinks. A woman had waited 20 min for a simple tea with hot water! I understand the drinks are made to order, but this is true at many establishments who are able to manage a much heavier volume of orders in a shorter timeframe. It also appeared that the operations only started right at opening. I would expect the staff to be ready to serve prior to doors opening. This is very disappointing because the establishment has an image and perception of quality, and given the prices, one expects a quality experience. I hope the business can address this, it is a great spot in an area that needs more variety in dining. Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $20–30 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 5

I wanted to really like this place, because the pastries and food look delicious (I had a cronut, which was really good) but this was a terrible matcha. I tried to drink some of it to be polite, but if I wasn’t meeting with a colleague I would’ve sent it back. It was almost entirely milk with a splash of a very watery matcha at the top. When mixed in, the drink was still just watery milk. I’d still come here again to try the other food, but I’d avoid the matcha! EDIT: Just wanted to respond to the owner - I appreciate your reply, but I think there is a difference between something not being made to everyone's taste versus being made incorrectly. I have never had a matcha this poor before. When the matcha latte was delivered, it was mostly milk with a thin layer of transparent (watery) light green liquid on top. If you look at any picture of a matcha latte online, it should not be a white color when the matcha is mixed in with the rest of the beverage - it should be at least a little green... I think it's possible this was a fluke, or maybe a new barista who wasn't sure how to make one. Either way, it's disingenuous to try to pass this off as being a matter of taste. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your matcha today, it is one of our best-sellers but is not to everyone’s taste. We would have gladly remade it to your liking had we known - or offered you any other drink. Because we want all our guests to leave happy of course, but also to give us a chance to avoid a very hurtful 2 star review for a small business. Hope you ll give us a chance in the future nonetheless!

came for breakfast at Matines Café, and everything was excellent. The hostess, Celia, was very welcoming and cheerful. I’ll definitely be coming back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $10–20
