A culinary experience in a class of its own! We were completely impressed by the “Mederrano” restaurant in downtown Cologne. From start to finish, our evening there was a delight for all the senses. Actually, I rarely write a review, but if I have such a lasting impression, I would like to share my experiences with other connoisseurs. The five of us were there on our short vacation on a Wednesday evening, the day after a public holiday. Because of this, a reservation was not necessary. The restaurant's location is extremely convenient, just a few minutes' walk from the Maritim, where we stayed, and the "Heumarkt" stop (lines 1, 5, 7, 9). This makes it easy to reach, even if it's a bit hidden, and is ideal for a relaxed meal after a day in the city. The ambience of the restaurant is appealing. The old patrician house with its historic wine cellar gives the place a special atmosphere. It is overall cozy and inviting. The food was simply fantastic! Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional quality and preparation of the 300g rump steak. It was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy - a real treat for meat lovers like me! The coarse natural salt further emphasized the special taste of the steak. The accompanying rosemary potatoes had an incomparable taste and complemented the steak perfectly. The lettuce was crisp and fresh. But the dessert also exceeded our expectations, for example the sweet chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The liquid chocolate center was covered in the juicy cake batter - just as it should be. A heavenly ending! The presentation of the dishes was as impressive as their taste. The staff also deserves the highest praise and is worth an extra star alone. It was extremely accommodating, friendly and authentic and made our evening even more memorable. Overall, I can fully recommend the Mederrano restaurant. The Mediterranean cuisine here is at the highest level, the price-performance ratio is right, the ambience is appealing and the staff make the visit a real pleasure. When we are in Cologne again, we will definitely come back to enjoy more delicacies! Or just the perfect steak again!
