Really disappointed. Very rude waiter. Rice and steak was flavorless. Came in with 3 people (myself and kids) as we waited for 2 more (mom/kid). There were two checks as we are two different families. We were both charged gratuity.. Very scammy and deceitful location. Stay away from Renton location. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2

When I found out I'd be spending a week in Tukwila, WA, I spent the holiday break bookmarking restaurants to try during my stay in Puget Sound. Mizu Japanese Steakhouse was one such bookmark since it was very close to the hotel I was staying at. I had so much going on during my first day here that I literally had no time to look up nearby restaurants, even on Yelp. That's where my bookmarks came in. I really didn't want to drive far for a nice meal, so I relied on my bookmarks to decide for me. While Mizu Japanese Steakhouse wasn't exactly the closest eatery I bookmarked, I wanted to go to that plaza first because it was in the same plaza as Corner Bakery Cafe, a cafe I had been to the previous day albeit down south in Lakewood. No not Lakewood, Washington. Think further south: Lakewood, California. I only wanted a beverage from Corner Bakery Cafe, and while I was sipping on said beverage inside, I hopped onto Mizu's Yelp page to peruse their menu so I could get a better idea of what kind of dishes they served. On their menu, they offer Single Entrees, Combos, Special Combos, and Yakisoba ranging from $22 to $72. These are listed under the Hibachi & Yakisoba meals, which also mention a few additional notes: * These meals come with Hibachi shrimp, grilled vegetables, and steamed rice * If you want to upgrade from steamed rice to fried rice, it'd be an additional $4.50 * If you dine in, you also get soup and salad, but you also get charged an additional 18% for gratuity * There is a share charge of $11, but that didn't apply to me because I ordered to go Since I wasn't sure if the menu on Yelp was the same as the menu the day I went, I asked for a takeout menu at the front desk. The hostess gave me a menu, and I studied the menu even more. I know I would have preferred the Ribeye over NY Steak and Filet Mignon, and I know I wanted at least one seafood. In other words, I wanted a Japanese Surf n Turf meal. I was thinking about getting an appetizer, but decided not to get one when I had read the first bullet point mentioned above. It could have been a lot, and I wasn't really that hungry, so I settled for the Ribeye and Lobster, which was a whopping $62! Definitely not something I'd splurge on weekly or even monthly, but only for a special occasion really is what I'd recommend. Even though I had decided on my meal, it still took about 5 minutes for one of the hostesses to return to the front desk and take my order. There weren't that many customers inside enjoying the hibachi shows of the likes of Benihana. Not that I'm comparing Mizu to Benihana because I don't know if they do the heart fried rice and the onion volcano tricks at Mizu, but I'm just putting it out there. When I told the hostess I wanted the Ribeye and Lobster to go, I specified with steamed rice, and she asked how I wanted the Ribeye cooked. "Medium Well" I answered, but she must not have heard the "well" part because she said "Medium?" Wait they only do rare, medium, and well done? Nothing in between? No it turns out they can cook medium well, and that's what I went with. She went to the register on the other side of the wall to place my order, grabbed a bump ticket, and handed it to me while saying $73.15. What?? Tax is almost 20% in Washington state?! I looked at the ticket, and she had charged me $4.50 for the fried rice even though I was intending to settle for the steamed rice. She had to redo the transaction, and then it came out to $68.20. Much better! After I paid, she told me it'd be about a 20-minute wait. During that wait, I sat on one of the three chairs by the left wall. The floors were really really sticky, so I didn't want to walk around. After a 20-25 minute wait, another hostess came to me in a tightly tied green plastic bag. I asked if the utensils and napkins were in there, and she confirmed this. I returned to my hotel to feast on this hibachi meal, which fit a standard takeout box, but was quite heavy! Inside was a mound of white rice, pieces of Ribeye steak, a lobster tail, shrimp, and grilled vegetables. I was also pleased they included two different sauces, one of which I think is Japanese Mayo. I dipped each piece of my meal into the sauces, which made my dinner more enjoyable, though I wouldn't say it was that much more enjoyable. The steak and lobster cooled down pretty quickly, so I had to eat them first before the vegetables and rice. They also included a packet of soy sauce, so I poured the soy sauce on top of the steamed rice, making it taste much better with the remaining grilled vegetables I had after finishing the steak and lobster. While the food tasted good, it certainly wasn't five star good, and service, although friendly, didn't stand out by any means. A solid three stars from me. Like I said, I would only recommend for a special occasion, and don't expect anything extraordinary.
