Paid £19, received nothing, and still no response or reimbursement Extremely disappointing experience with O'Neill's Reading today. I placed a takeaway order online for collection at 15:30 and received a confirmation email with a collection reference. The payment was immediately taken from my bank account. I left Reading station and walked to the pub specifically to collect it, only to be told by the server that they had not received the order and that they could not see anything on their system. I showed that I had paid, but was told there was nothing they could refund. I had a train to catch, so I had no choice but to leave without my food, out of pocket, after wasting valuable time walking to the pub. The customer service afterwards has been just as poor. I was told to Google the number of the head office and raise the issue with them. The number I found led to a switchboard that directed me to Guest Care, which there was no response and did not even provide an option to leave a message. I eventually managed to obtain an email address and sent a formal complaint. I am still waiting for my £19 refund and have received absolutely no response. If your website accepts an order, sends a confirmation and takes someone's money, the customer should not be left to sort out the consequences. O'Neill's, please respond to my complaint and refund my money. **********UPDATE – 26/08/2026********* O'Neill's have now responded publicly to this review and confirmed that they "did not receive my order on their till system". They have apologised and said they will arrange my refund, but asked me to email my phone number so this could be processed. I immediately emailed the address they provided with my phone number. I have still received no response and the £19 has still not been refunded. I also want to clarify the wording of O'Neill's response. This was not a delay in receiving my food. I did not receive my food at all. I had a confirmed order for collection at 15:30, the £19 payment was taken from my account, I walked from Reading station to the pub specifically to collect it, and I was then told that they had never received the order. I had to leave to catch my train without the food I had paid for. This is particularly disappointing because I had already contacted Guest Care as instructed and received no response there either. It was only after I posted this public review that I received a response from O'Neill's, yet despite me immediately following their instructions, I am still having to chase this. I am in full-time employment and simply do not have the time to repeatedly call a switchboard or spend hours trying to get someone to process a refund for an order that O'Neill's have now confirmed they never received. I did not provide my number, as I do not have the capacity at work to spend time on the phone. And they didn't even respond to my email, so doubt they would have called me had I provided a number. I would like the refund actually processed and some accountability for how this happened. If the website can accept an order, send a confirmation and take £19 from a customer's account without the restaurant receiving the order, what is being done to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else? I am still £19 out of pocket and still waiting for a response. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: £10–20

Good Morning, I have just picked up with the duty manager from yesterday regarding this in which yes we can confirm we did not receive your order to the till system so this caused the confusion and delay of your food which we can only apologise for. I will arrange for your refund to be processed of course if you can email us with your phone number on reading@oneills.co.uk as we will need to process this via the phone for you and again i am super sorry you had this experience with us. Atmosphere is amazing, sports on display at any angle. Staff more than welcoming, would recommend for any evening/afternoon event, plus great selection of interesting beers Price per person: £10–20 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Popped into O'Neills on our staff day out for a few drinks and had a great time. The atmosphere was brilliant, the pub was busy but well run, and the service from Casey was excellent throughout. Friendly, attentive and always happy to help, which really made our visit enjoyable. A great spot for a drink in Reading and we'll definitely be back next time we're in town. Highly recommended! Price per person: £20–30 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
