I can confirm since your last visit, we have refurbished our main tank and added new theming, opened the new Observation Station tank, rethemed our iguana enclosure, refurbished our café and opened our new turtle enclosure for our smaller resident turtles. I can confirm all areas are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. Regarding our turtle Carrie, thank you for your concerns. We can confirm the health and wellbeing of our creatures is our main priority. Being a member of BIAZA all our enclosures exceed the minimum requirements for the animals. Carrie’s pacing behaviour is seasonal, as turtles become more active in preparation for breeding. She is not yet in breeding condition though and has been checked recently (blood test and ultrasound scan) by our vet to confirm this. We monitor her behaviour closely and have been observing a daily cycle of sleeping, pacing and general activity around the tank, roughly every hour or so. To provide more variety we carry out feeds at different times during the day, as well as direct keeper interactions (such as shell scrubbing) and enrichment activities to keep her active and entertained. This seasonal behaviour lasts no longer than 2 months, after which she returns to her usual more sedate daily routine of behaviours. When she has reached a breeding condition she will be moved to a larger facility to be able to complete her breeding cycle. We are sorry to hear you wouldn't visit again in the next few years.
