Ridiculously poor service. We felt like an inconvenience from the moment we were seated. We waited for 40 minutes after being seated before leaving our table, not even a drinks order was taken within this time. Three members of waiting staff had seen we still had menus at the table, yet none still approached us. Not sure if all tourists receive this treatment, but would advise taking your custom elsewhere! A mixed bag. Horrible house wine which is unusual for Italy. Great bruschetta and pasta dishes but service was terrible. Why would the owner or chef have person wait on tables that has the personality of a stone? He should be washing dishes or working as a mechanic. Food: 5 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

For Japanese tourists who are visiting Matera for the first time, we would like to introduce our good experience, even though it is a long one, as if we were new to Matera. I visited Matera for sightseeing in early November 2023. Since this was a tour where we had to find food on our own, we consulted with the local guide and was introduced to this famous restaurant. During my stay in Matera, I went there for dinner two nights in a row and it became my favorite. If we were to compare it to Japan, it would be a very stylish cave-like restaurant where you can enjoy delicious local cuisine at izakaya prices. I'm really grateful that they kindly accommodated us, an elderly Japanese couple who could only speak limited English. The location of the store and the cave-like atmosphere inside the store are outstanding. Even though we could not speak Italian at all, they responded politely and with just the kind of approach and timing that Japanese people prefer. The food is truly Matera's local cuisine. I was able to fully enjoy the local feel. Even though I pride myself on being a big eater in Japan, I was surprised by the volume of the dish. Delicious Matera bread comes as a side dish, so if you are ordering for two regular Japanese people, I think the limit would be 3 dishes + 1 dessert to be shared between the two people. On the first day, I didn't know how much food to cook. I was a failure because I asked too much. ・Appetizer set €30 (There will be a total of 8 dishes for two people. If you're a small eater, just this and wine will do. I think you will be satisfied) ・Beef steak €24 (The meat is soft, very juicy, and huge. Meat lovers will love it) ・Turnip orecchiette €12 (Local specialty: earlobe-shaped pasta) ・Half bottle of white wine €7 The €30 appetizer set is enough for two people. There will be 8 dishes. It was made with local ingredients and was all delicious, but the portions were too much for us. There's also a steak that looks like it's over a pound long. Knockout with chase! After that, I could hardly finish the Okilette. Completely down. Even the dessert I was looking forward to I couldn't reach it and was left with some regrets. On the second day, reduce the amount and try again! ・Zucchini, apple and mint salad €7 (Simple taste of olive oil, vinegar and salt) ・Chickpea potage €12 (Large capacity with a gentle taste with a firm texture) ・Braised lamb with bone €20 (Rich flavor, tender bone-in meat) ・Half bottle of red wine €7 ・Ricotta cheese and mascarpone Chocolate cake €6 ・Espresso coffee €2 No regular coffee. Espresso only. On the second day, I managed to eat all the food and was very satisfied. The locally famous Matera bread is served as an accompaniment, cut and packaged in a paper bag. Matera bread was delicious when dipped in leftover sauce or chickpea potage. Red, white, and rosé wines They have cheap house wine. 1/4, 1/2, and 1/1 are available at low prices. You can choose between dry and regular red wine. Service (tip) charge is also included in the meal price. It seemed like there was. With reasonable prices, a great atmosphere, and delicious home-cooked local cuisine, we were able to enjoy a perfect night out in Matera.
