Albuquerque has some decent restaurants serving Vietnamese cuisine. Pho #1 deserves a shout out. Pho #1 has been around for about 22 years. Run by a really nice couple, Hue and Ly aka Lily. Hue manages the kitchen and Lily is the cultural ambassador that runs the front end of the restaurant. The menu is outstanding. The main item in any Vietnamese restaurant is the soup Pho. Pho has a fragrant broth, includes rice noodles, herbs and meat [chicken or beef]. The broth is prepared by simmering beef bones. Pho #1 simmers beef bones for nearly 30 hours, over two days. And the flavor shows in the soup. My favorite go to item is the combination Pho. Can never complain. In terms of price, Pho #1 is a lot more reasonable compared to other places. Given the surrounding neighborhood, some customers might think Pho #1 is expensive. The problem is that food is not cheap, especially in the last couple. It is not the fault of the owners. Also, we live in a meat obsessed nation. Overall, Pho #1 is such a wonderful little small business run by a wonderful couple. Lily's smile and warmth can never be beaten. She knows her customers really well. And her customers also, often, know Hue and Lily very well. Being around for 22 years shows. Albuquerque needs wonderful family owned small restaurants. These restaurants need our support for their success. Wishing Pho #1 all the luck to stick around for another 25 years. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
