This place isn't just a restaurant; it's a true local institution for comfort food lovers across Illinois. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is fantastic. The decor is a fun, quirky trip down memory lane, filled with vintage pictures and artifacts that create a cool, museum-style atmosphere—you could literally spend all day looking at everything on the walls. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the cleanliness of the place makes you feel right at home. Of course, the main event here is the food, and it does not disappoint. The Pit has truly "mastered the art of barbecue," using high-quality cuts of meat and slow-cooking them over an open wood pit. The result is that delicious, authentic wood-smoked flavor that is hard to find. The baby back ribs are world-famous for a reason—they are incredibly tender, literally "fall-off-the-bone" good, and smothered in their signature sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. The portions are generous, and the sides are tasty. I highly recommend the brisket grilled cheese, the Greek sausage, and the pulled pork. Even the drinks are delicious and come in generous carafes.
