We recently visited Pitopsomo, a charming pita shop here in Athens, twice in three days. The pitas and the atmosphere impressed us, and even though not every dish was perfect, there were many highlights that will definitely make us come back. The food On our first visit, my wife ordered the chicken souvlaki skewer, which consisted of juicy chicken thigh meat and was served with bread. I tried the oriental style souvlaki kebab, also with bread. The consistency of the kebab was a bit unusual for my taste, but the overall taste was good and flavorful. The chicken skewer also had an interesting texture and tasted okay, but not exceptional. The bread was really excellent – fresh, soft and a highlight to every dish. Another dish we tried was the zucchini balls. These were nice and crispy on the outside and tasted well. There was also tzatziki, which tasted very fresh and went perfectly with it. My pita, which was also filled with the souvlaki kebab, was a real taste experience: tzatziki, fries, tomatoes, onions and the spicy kebab meat - everything harmonized wonderfully and the combination in the pita was very successful. On the second visit I tried a wrap pita with the chicken souvlaki, but unfortunately it didn't impress me. The wrap pita didn't have the flavor or texture I was hoping for and I probably wouldn't order it again. There was also a tomato and cucumber salad, which was very fresh and generous. With a dash of olive oil it tasted light and refreshing - definitely a good accompaniment to the main courses. Service and atmosphere The service at PietSommer was extremely friendly and attentive. We particularly liked the gesture that the staff offered us a small dessert after our meal, since we skipped the alcoholic drink that they had originally planned to serve. The atmosphere in the shop is relaxed and inviting – just the thing for a small but delicious meal. Conclusion Pitopsomo is a recommended address for anyone looking for a good pita shop in the area. Even if not every dish on the menu appealed to our taste, we now know which dishes we would order next time. Overall, Pitopsomo offers a pleasant and tasty experience with very friendly service. While there are certainly other outstanding pita places in Athens, Pitopsomo is definitely one of the best options in the area and worth a visit if you're in the area.
