stayed here a few times times now to visit family and that past two times now that we have stayed the rooms have been absolutly stinking of cigarette smoke, when i went down to complain i was told that it wasnt cigarette smoke because their smoke alarms are very sensitive, but when you looked at the window sil it was clear somone had been smoking in the room as there was cigarette ash on the window sil. when we arrived the windows were open and the fan on full blast both times to clearly try to get rid of the smell. We were due to stay at this hotel, but I was delayed due to business commitments and my 83-year-old manager had spent most of the afternoon in A&E. I called the hotel around two hours before arrival to explain the situation and confirm that a check-in after 7pm would be acceptable. I was assured that this would not be a problem. However, when we arrived, we were told that we could not have dinner because there were no staff available. This was never mentioned during my earlier phone call, which would have allowed us to make alternative arrangements. We explained our circumstances to the restaurant staff, but there seemed to be little concern or empathy. To make matters more frustrating, food continued to be served from the kitchen to other tables for at least 30 minutes after we were told we could not eat. The bar experience was equally disappointing. We selected four different drinks from the menu before finding one that was actually in stock. Accessibility is another issue. The lift to the first floor is a considerable distance from reception, requiring guests to walk along two very long corridors. This is far from ideal for elderly guests or anyone with mobility difficulties. Finally, we were kept awake from around 1am by seagulls outside. The windows are fixed open, leaving little protection from the noise. Overall, the lack of communication, compassion, and customer service was extremely disappointing. Based on this experience, I would not recommend staying here. Service: 1

We arrived at the premier Inn Elgin for a karate comp. Between us we had 5 rooms. Before our stay we did get an email stating that the restaurant was not open for evening meals due to low staffing. We understood that the restaurant was not open but prior to out arrival we were getting emails to ask if we wanted to upgrade to the meal deal??? We didn't expect the bar to not be open just the restaurant. When we questioned this we got a response of "they won't staff the bar" not a great attitude to have. The reception staff were pleasant tho. The breakfast was AWFUL on all 3 mornings. Low stock, food cold and look liked it had been there for weeks. One room had no heating working. To top it off my son (14) bought something from the vending machine that was 3 months out of date. The reception staff were apologetic and did speak to the company but it would worry me if it was child was younger and didn't notice. We will be looking at a different hotel for sure for next year.
