Project Suya (Bowie, next to gas station) This was my first time trying Project Suya after seeing it on TikTok, and honestly, it was a huge disappointment. I ordered a suya bowl, and the biggest issue was the lack of flavor. The meat was completely dry and tasteless, which is crazy because suya is one of those foods that should always be packed with flavor. There’s really no excuse for it to come out like that. What made it worse is that I literally watched my food get put in the microwave, and it came out piping hot but not fresh. Once I got home and took a bite, it was obvious the meat had been sitting and was just reheated. Dry, overcooked, and disappointing. The portion size was actually good, and the packaging was solid. Customer service wasn’t bad either the staff was polite. But when I was told the food would be ready in 5 minutes, that should’ve been my first red flag. Now it makes sense why they weren’t cooking anything fresh. I also noticed the gas tank setup sounded hollow when I touched it, which made me question if anything was being freshly grilled at all. For $30, this was absolutely not worth it. The only decent things were the pepper sauce and the free drink. Even the suya powder was overly salty, probably trying to make up for the lack of flavor in the meat. Suya is a staple West African dish you just don’t mess that up. The fact that it came out dry, microwaved, and flavorless is honestly unacceptable. And if you are going to microwave the food you gotta bring down the prices to make up for it I won’t be going back. I recently bought suya from this place and had a great experience. The product was absolutely delicious, the packaging was neat and well done, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely be coming back again! Price per person: $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
