RE:Seoul – A Homey Taste of Korean Comfort in Auckland CBD RE:Seoul is a delightful, familial business that feels inviting and genuine. It is similar to small eateries you would find in Korea. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making the restaurant an ideal place to enjoy a comforting meal. The owners, an older couple, were thrilled to see me, an overseas guest, enjoying their food. Their kindness also contributed to the experience. As a solo diner, the Special Mixed Intestines ($60) was on the pricier side. However, the generous serving made it more economical if shared. Complimentary sides included sweet potatoes, spicy fish cakes, house-made kimchi, macaroni salad, seaweed, and my favorite—raw onions soaked in vinegar (so good that I wish I had asked for more, although I was too shy to inquire about unlimited refills). I noticed the complete lack of grill smoke—for those sensitive to fragrance, no fear of barbecue odors lingering post-meal. During my meal, one of the owners was quite kind in preparing and serving other meats to me while my intestines were sizzling. Though small, this gesture elevated the meal significantly. There were no bothersome smells to be noticed, nor any lingering tastes to be detected. Rather, every bite was supple and well-cooked, full of flavor. Each mouthful was a delightful blend of bite-sized pieces and a perfect combination of tenderness and crispiness. I particularly relished the pig intestines. Furthermore, when I had the meal alongside the sides, it became even better when I added the homemade kimchi fried rice. That meal truly refined and strengthened my love for Korean Cuisine. The restaurant comes recommended for those seeking more exotic or full-flavored offal dishes, as well as Korean food lovers. It is a perfectly blended combination of heart, authenticity, and comfort.
