Last week, my job ordered savoy Pizza . I tried it, and omg, I loved it . Just last Friday, I made a stop ordered pizza and wings. Love it .. I love it.. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Minnesota's best tavern style Pizza. I was a huge proponent of the original Red's Savoy Pizza Tavern in Downtown Saint Paul that stood for 4 or 5 decades on east 7th Street with its wonderful old school charm, a wait staff the had worked there what seemed their entire lives, and Pizza ovens with a half a century's worth of baked Pies through them. We lost a national treasure when the family decided to close the OG location and open up these little soulless take-out locations throughout the cities but hey, it happened and it isn't coming back. I may as well get on with the Pizza review: The Midwest is unique with their pies as they tend to double the amount of cheese used and then they cut the pizza into squares rather than the slices you would see in say New York or Chicago. They also want the crust crispy and cracker-like which I absolutely adore. Oh, and that sauce. The sauce... my god that delicious sauce... is thick and is heavily-seasoned with oregano and something that gives it a little kick which is bizarre as Minnesotans tend to have the blandest tastes on Earth. Oregano is everywhere in the flavor profile with a passive aggressive amount of heat from the slyly loaded Red Pepper inn the red sauce. It is divine. Best sauce ever? Sure, I will say it. Why not? I am of the firm belief that when a restaurant has the tenacity to make its own sausage, I owe the place the respect of ordering it and the house made sausage was, as expected, the star of the show. The sausage had a perfect fat to meat ratio, was plenty spicy, and -- as mentioned earlier -- along with the sauce the pie was nearly "hot" in the spiciness scale. My fellow reader if Red's Savoy Pizza were to exist in OC or Los Angeles we would no longer have to sit slack jawed while our Chicago and NYC counterparts tee off on the local Pizza game. In fact, we could tell them to F off. Savoy offers the premier 'Sota style Pie.
