Extremely disappointed! I guess the first mistake was not having a reservation. The drinks were super, didn't have anything that I really wanted and then, after placing our order, the bartender/Waiter came back and said that their system went down and they didn't have our orders in. This was 25mins after we placed our orders..... They fit us in on short notice and then sized us up and decided that they did not want to serve us. Period. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!!! and I will NEVER be back! Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

On Saturday, April 6th, I visited Roots and Revelry in the Thomas Jefferson Building in Birmingham, AL. Six people were in our party, with some traveling from North Carolina to celebrate our sister's 40th birthday. The ambiance, food, and service were stellar and unmatched. We enjoyed tasting nearly the entire menu and about two bottles of champagne for mimosas. Unfortunately, our dining experience was nearly ruined about halfway through by the front-of-house manager, Tracy. Considering our reservation was made in advance for a party of 6 with no questions, we were surprised when Tracy approached our table after we had completed our appetizers, presenting us with the "rules" for large parties. This paper looked like she ran to the back office and printed in Word after she set eyes on our party, which happened to be made up of black women. These large party rules stated that parties over 6 required a credit card deposit, which was not obtained before we arrived, and that checks for parties over 10 could not be split. None of this applied to us since she failed to receive this credit card hold before our arrival. Presenting us with these rules was extremely odd to us; however, I was of the mindset that rules are rules until a larger group of all white women celebrating a bridal shower entered. Tracy did not once approach them and present them with her unbranded Word document. After we left, we did some research and discovered that Tracy did the exact same thing to a group of black women just last month. Roots and Revelry, you have a fantastic serving staff, and your chef and kitchen staff are stellar!!! I hope that you'll be able to address what seems to be a pattern of discrimination and profiling with your manager, Tracy. Roots & Revelry Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $100+
