I had takeout poke for 5 days straight in a row and decided I should start making it myself. I figured that I ate it enough to be able to steal the (simple) recipe. I was looking for a place that I can grab sashimi-grade salmon. I stumbled upon Royal Hawaiian Seafood and I was intrigued because they are a wholesaler offering fish to any customers that simply just need to make an account. They have so much selection for fish and flying fish roe, which is a huge plus for me. All I had to do was order 12 hours in advance online, then go pick it up. Parking was super easy, it's like an industrial area and really open, which is the major reason why I didn't want to go into San Francisco to get a cut of fish. Once I got there, an employee was there to ask for my name and grabbed my order from the back. It was really quick and they have a ring bell in case everyone is in the back. Once I got home, I opened my bag and I saw the fattiest salmon of my life. I really like fatty salmon and I was able to get a cut that had super thick white lines (which is why I ordered the Ora King Salmon from New Zealand). I diced it up for poke and spicy mayo, and separate cuts for sashimi with chopped wasabi and soy sauce. The customer service is excellent. They are quick with emails too! I have been there many times and always looking to go again when I'm craving sushi/poke. I would definitely recommend this to all my friends looking for fish to make sushi or sashimi with! I am also born and from Hawaii so it was cool to shop at a place that has ties from Hawaii too. Awesome experience overall! Mahalo!!
The worst company to deal with. I buy a lot of seafood and these people are difficult to deal with and product is not very consistent. Poor customer service - I'll take my business elsewhere and you should too.
why does this place not have more reviews? but it is definitely one of those hidden gems for consumer purchase! like so many businesses who either failed or turned their biz model during these times, they are of the latter and started offering quality seafood to the public at very reasonable prices. (if you don't agree to the prices, pls feel free to disagree with a better alternative in the bay area.) their website is transparent with pricing and i think they're trying to grow their customer base too with more knowledgeable articles on sourcing origins and recipes. their IG account seems to be better updated with customer photos so you can get creative as to how to serve a potential dinner party or special occasion meal. this place definitely would not hurt the wallet as much for quality and freshness vs dining at reputable restaurants. in fact, they sell to many reputable restaurants which may be the reason why some items may be out of stock often (hint hint those uni trays) it's very close to the airport, so i think it helps with keeping things fresh as they unload the planes. also they are responsive and helpful if you have any questions via IG PMs.
