Sen is in a family-run ryokan. There only 4 tables. You can see the kitchen on 1 side and the nature from the other. The food here is more of a local Nara with French influence. Im told the chef recently won a very prestigious Japanese chef award under a French name. With the food being Nara focused, it was my 1st time trying a lot of these ingredients. All of them were very memorable. But my favorite was the trout skewered and grilled with kuromoji. For a price of around Y20k, id say this was a steal. Add the fact that if you booked a stay in the ryokan, youre in for an excellent night's rest. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥10,000+

Went here together with my partner and their family and had an absolutely amazing experience. Everything from the booking process to the restaurant contacting me with some questions were handled were smoothly. The restaurant is located very beautifully next to a river stream which gives you a beautiful view as you eat. The service was great, the staff shared their knowledge about the local area advising us on where to visit. They took a lot of time chatting with each member in our party, answering any questions or such which was great. Food was also sublime with the concept of you following the river downstream and eating things from the various areas making it feel almost like a story. The restaurant has an open kitchen allowing you to see the chefs as they work. What impressed me the most was the silence under which the chefs worked. If you were to close your eyes you would not know they were there. Overall this was among the best experiences I have had in Japan and I already look forward to my next visit.
