I completely understand being open for limited hours on holidays, but to advertise that you are open until a certain time, and then to stand in the doorway and refuse to let people in while you are still supposed to be open is beyond ridiculous. The person who kept shutting the doors and refusing to allow people in wasn't even being remotely polite about it. There were probably around 10 people standing outside the doors looking totally confused, and there was no explanation, no apologies, just a very rude, short tempered employee that kept yelling "we're closed" even though they were still supposed to be open for another 15 minutes. Personally, I'm more than a little inconvenienced, but I'll survive. I can go without the couple items I was trying to get for the night, and it's not going to cause me any serious harm. What about the single mom who thought she had one more can of formula left, but realized she was wrong and raced to the store to get more before they closed, and made it with 15 minutes to spare, only to be turned away with no real explanation, other than the obvious fact that the employees here are choosing to give themselves an early night, with no consideration for how that might effect the business itself or the people that depend on this store for their day to day needs. I have worked in the service industry for years, and I can understand having a bad day. It happens, unfortunately a lot more than it should. But you should never take your bad mood out on the customers. That's extremely immature and unprofessional. If you advertise different hours for holidays, or for any other reason, you should be open during those hours. Period. I think it's safe to sat that practically everyone that went to this location today, checked their posted hours for the day before making the trip to the store. And I think we can all agree gas isn't cheap, so this whole situation is just extremely frustrating, for so many reasons. And I already know that nothing will come from this review. None of the people that were turned away can really be compensated for something like this, so once again it is us, the customers that are just expected to deal with whatever nonsense is thrown our way. It's extremely clear that large corporations like safeway, and the people that they employ, don't care about their customers at all. Nobody will really be able to calculate not just the money that the business lost in sales, but all the time that was wasted, time that we the customers will never be able to get back. And honestly, what really makes me the most upset about this whole thing, is just how extremely unprofessional and just flat out rude that employee was being to all of us customers. If the store was being shut down early, you could of atleast notified people in a polite and respectful manner. Apologized about having to do so, and acknowledge the inconvenience you were causing all these people. But instead you sent someone who was clearly extremely agitated, and who didn't have the courtesy to be even slightly professional about the whole situation. Do better safeway.
