Review We went to Saiko to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had been here just over 10 years ago and were very pleased with the visit. We were a total of four people. Two adults and two children. We thought we wanted to be full and therefore ordered the tasting menu for SEK 600 per person. We've made it a tradition to celebrate birthdays or the like at restaurants in town and we've never had to leave a restaurant hungry after a tasting menu. When we sat down, a rather angry girl came in who had been waiting for her takeaway for almost two hours, she said. That was a warning flag for us. It took 35 minutes for us to get our first course, carpaccio. Even though when we booked a table we indicated that we would have a tasting menu, it took 35 minutes. Good but minimal. Not even a bite big. Then it took another 20 minutes for the next dish. A piece of sushi. Then we waited another 15 minutes for the correct number 3. Another piece of sushi. Correct number four was an egg mixed with some grilled vegetable. At this point, the children have lost patience and go in and out of the restaurant several times. Before the next dish we ask if all the dishes will be this small? Then the waiter, who did the best he could and was quite nice, says no, there will be a lot more food. Then comes a small spoonful of rice with a little rum on it. Everything so far tastes good but the amount of food is still minimal. The next dish to come in is 2 pieces of maki per person. I point out to the waiter that neither of us is full. Even our 10-year-old boy, who weighs 31 kilos, is not full. We have now been sitting in the restaurant for over 2 hours. Then comes the last dish, which is another 2 pieces of maki. As a parent, you can't see your children go hungry, so I didn't eat any of the last two dishes so that the children would have some kind of satiety feeling. They didn't get that anyway. In total, the evening cost SEK 2,899. There were four tasting menus, two beers, a glass of natural wine and the children each got two Japanese soft drinks. There was so little food. I made it very clear to the waiter that this was a deep disappointment. No one in our party was anywhere near full. The evening ended at the falafel joint Jalla Jalla. I know that it may seem small-minded that, as a middle-class family in Sweden, complain about a visit to a restaurant when there is war in Ukraine and Israel/Palestine. But this is how it is. Through food we show the people around us that we love them and we use food to celebrate holidays and traditions. We dress up and make ourselves extra nice. The visit to Saiko was somewhat the opposite. Rather, it became some strange form of torture. Getting a bite every 30 minutes when you come to a restaurant hungry is just hard. When I pointed out that after finishing the tasting menu we were still hungry, the waiter said. That you only get a little of everything. Very little of everything I would say. I also wonder if there isn't a lack of professional pride when customers leave one's restaurant hungry after spending so much money. I will add that the little food we got tasted very good but even so it was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. I regret that I am not that kind of Instagrammer who takes pictures of every dish I eat because I would have liked to share the pictures here. We left the restaurant hungry disappointed with a feeling that we had been cheated. We had a ruined birthday and the whole family got an expensive memory for life. Never again Saiko in Malmö!
