Disappointing Chef’s Sashimi Combo at Satomi in Tracy – Won’t Be Back Unless They Improve I really wanted to like Satomi (819 W 11th St, Tracy), but my recent visit left me pretty disappointed with the sushi. I ordered the Chef’s Sashimi Combo (5 pieces of chef’s choice sashimi plus a spicy tuna roll). The presentation looked nice enough, but the execution fell way short of what I expect at that price point. The sashimi slices were cut so flat and thin that they gave almost no “mouthful” texture at all—just thin strips that disappeared in one bite. Even worse, the fish had a distinct sour taste (kind of like the pickled carrot/daikon in a Vietnamese banh mi) and an off smell that made it really hard to enjoy. It didn’t taste or smell fresh to me. The spicy tuna roll that came with it didn’t redeem the plate either. The only bright spot was the BBQ chicken I also ordered—it was actually solid and flavorful. Unfortunately, it was the lone redeeming factor in an otherwise underwhelming meal. For the price and the way it was presented, the sushi simply didn’t deliver. I ended up rushing through it just to finish and honestly wouldn’t return unless they fix the portion sizes, cut thickness, and especially the freshness/quality of the fish. No photos because I was just trying to get through the meal as quickly as possible. 2/5 stars. Hope they step it up—Tracy could use a reliable sushi spot.
