Mediocre taste and questionable portion size for the price. Service was awful the woman behind the counter was ignorant and didn’t respond to please and thank you.Certainly wasn’t made welcome, and it was empty so no real excuse. Certainly won’t be back. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £10–20 Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

A few years ago I had a girlfriend with terminal cancer. We spent 6 months travelling the UK, trying to put some decent experiences and memories in place. In that time I had a LOT of gastropub food, and especially a lot of fish and chips. We had a wonderful time, and I treasure those last days with her.Since then I've occasionally had fish and chips, but always felt sad. You see, fish and chips is such a simple meal, but never perfect. There's *always* one thing not right.. an overthick batter, anaemic chips, a weak gravy. And having fish and chips since then just reminded me that you can't make a perfect moment, that there's always compromises. I guess I learnt that the perfect meal isn't about what's in front of you on the plate, it's who you're with.So years later and in another life, and I'm in Windermere celebrating my honeymoon with my beautiful wife. The BnB owner recommends Seafarers (I've had the other nearby place before, and it was pretty good).. and blow me down if it wasn't the PERFECT fish and chips. The batter tempura crisp and light, with no soggyiness on the bottom or weird batter fluff, the fish substantial but flaky, the chips varied, but fluffy and crispy. The gravy thick. Loads of scraps that stay crispy regardless of how much vinegar you throw at them. The staff happy and friendly and kind.We ate with cheap prosecco by the side of the road. It was always going to be the best fish and chips with the company, and the moment.. But dammed if that wasn't the BEST fish and chips I've ever had. I feel so blessed that my best fish and chip experience was also *the* best serving of fish and chips ever.
