I had a meeting on the University of Houston campus today and had some time to stop by the Recreation Center. What a beautiful sight. The first thing that caught my attention was the architecture and the intentionality behind the space. You can really see that this facility was designed with the whole student experience in mind. Yes, there are places to work out, play basketball and volleyball, swim, and take care of your physical health, but there are also spaces to simply relax, study, work, and ground yourself. Looking through the windows, I could see students quietly doing their work and taking time for themselves. There is even a wellness center here. The whole environment feels inclusive and thoughtful. And the architecture is beautiful. With the palm trees and the open structure, it almost gives you the feeling of being inside a modern coliseum. There is a sense of scale to the space, but it still feels welcoming. While I was here, I stopped by Shake Smart and had the pleasure of meeting Kyla and Elizabeth. Honestly, I was not even planning on purchasing anything. I was just coming in to take a quick meeting. But their laughter, warmth, and chipper spirit drew me right in. Sometimes it is the energy of the people that makes you want to participate in a space, and these two definitely did that for me. I ended up grabbing a cold brew shake and enjoying the experience. So I wanted to give a shout out to Kyla and Elizabeth for bringing that kind of joy and hospitality into the Recreation Center. And if you come through Shake Smart, make sure you take care of them and show them some love. More importantly, I want to recognize the University of Houston for the intentional design of this facility and the thought being put into the well-being of its students. This is more than a place to work out. It is a place to move, connect, focus, relax, restore, and simply be. Beautiful space. Beautiful energy. Beautiful example of what happens when environment is designed with people in mind. Five stars across the board. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Other Price per person: $1–10
