What a special new spot in downtown ROC. My wife and I opted for their 5 course pre-fixe dinner and were fairly blown away. The portions were excellent and featured early summer ingredients perfectly, and we had some of the best hospitality in a restaurant in recent memory. Staff came to our table with a complimentary dish to apologize for a delay in the courses... which to our minds were coming out at a totally reasonable clip to begin with. Great food, great cocktails, and an inviting bar ambiance. Looking forward to returning! Price per person: $70–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you're looking for a dining experience that rivals a Michelin-starred restaurant in NYC, this is the place. The food was exceptional, but what truly won me over was the service. Without question, this was the best restaurant service we've experienced in the past year—and we dine out often enough to know when something is truly outstanding. Every member of the staff was attentive, professional, friendly, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. They were polished without feeling pretentious, and their positive energy elevated the entire evening. The restaurant itself is modern, cozy, and impeccably clean. Surprisingly, it's tucked away in the back of a parking lot and somewhat hidden from street view. Had it not been recommended to me, I never would have guessed a restaurant of this caliber existed there. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a stunning view of the bar and a glimpse of the culinary team hard at work. We were seated in the back dining area, which was intimate, softly lit, and had the perfect ambiance. The music was upbeat yet subtle—creating energy without overpowering conversation. We started with several appetizers paired with wine, then enjoyed the beef, duck, and burger entrées. Every dish was beautifully prepared and packed with flavor. For dessert, we shared the chocolate tiramisu, crème brûlée, and olive oil cake—each one outstanding and the perfect ending to the meal. This restaurant earns a 5/5 from me across every category: food, service, atmosphere, and overall experience. Yes, it's expensive, but it's absolutely worth experiencing at least once. In my opinion, there are very few places in the Rochester area that deliver this level of dining. One final detail that makes this restaurant special: the menu changes monthly, ensuring there's always something new to discover. That alone gives me a reason to come back. Price per person: $100+

Shell Restaurant is truly one of Rochester’s hidden gems. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels intimate, elegant, and thoughtfully designed, perfect for a special night out. The food is absolutely outstanding. Every dish is beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the creativity behind each plate really shows the chef’s talent and attention to detail. The tasting menu is a must-try if you want the full experience each course feels intentional and perfectly balanced. The service is just as impressive as the food. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They take the time to explain each dish and offer great recommendations for wine or cocktails. If you’re looking for a fine dining experience in Rochester that rivals big-city restaurants, Shell is the place to go. Worth every penny. I can’t wait to come back!
