We were in the neighborhood and wanted to try something new, hoping for a good meal, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. To start, the server was not familiar with the menu and twice responded with, “I don’t know,” when we asked about menu items. The food was below average overall, with the bowl being the only decent dish. We also ordered bread, which tasted stale and old. The cocktails were particularly disappointing. They were so bad that we couldn’t even drink them, even after trying to fix them ourselves. Overall, it felt like a complete waste of money. We were really hoping for a nice dining experience, but unfortunately, this was one experiment we definitely won’t be repeating. We recently visited Sidebar Grill in Langley during their happy hour, which runs from 9pm to closing. Overall, the food and service were actually very good. The fish tacos were tasty, the atmosphere was relaxed, and our waitress, Megan, was polite and helpful. However, I noticed a pricing issue that left a bad impression. My son and I each ordered the Fish Taco Duo from the happy hour menu. The menu clearly states it’s $8 for 2 tacos, with an extra taco for $3. We each added one extra taco. When the bill came, we were charged $3.95 for each extra taco instead of the advertised $3 price. I brought it up to the waitress, who spoke with the manager. To resolve it, they applied a discount of $1.80 total, even though the difference should have been $1.90 (.95¢ x 2). The waitress mentioned that they “can’t change the price of the menu item in the system hence the discount” and that someone from the office needs to fix it. What concerns me is that if nobody noticed this before, customers may have been getting overcharged by $0.95 per taco for quite some time. Mistakes happen, and I appreciate that the staff tried to address it politely, but pricing should match what’s clearly advertised on the menu. Transparency matters, especially when it comes to billing. I’d still say the food and service were good, but I hope management fixes this issue properly moving forward. We finally checked out Sidebar Grill on Saturday and WOW hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately and from the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS — every dish we ordered was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. From the wings, tacos, sandwich, fries and even the non-alcoholic beer selection everything was incredible. But what truly made the experience stand out was Natalie, the manager/host. She was warm, welcoming and checked in on us throughout the evening making sure we were happy with both the food and service. You can tell she genuinely cares about creating a great experience for guests, and that level of hospitality is rare. Amazing atmosphere, amazing food and outstanding customer service. We will 100% be back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fantastic night out. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
