If we were to rate ambiance alone, cafeteria de Smulhoek would easily get an 11. Located in an attractive working-class neighborhood, you immediately see that the Smulhoek is more than a cafeteria. It is a meeting place for like-minded people. People with a mission, a vision and values and standards that only come into their own in the cafeteria. We are of course talking about a ball from the gravy. And not one of those factory-made meatballs with watery gravy, but a lovingly hand-rolled meatball. The balls are made in the early morning by the cafeteria owner and his wife, who have been manning the Smulhoek for almost 40 (!) years. We were helped in an extremely friendly manner, but above all you could see that the passion was evident. Cafeteria de Smulhoek is much more than a chip shop, it is a life's work. The ball itself was wonderfully tender, well seasoned and deliciously salty. The gravy was on the greasy side, you don't want to drink a sip of this gravy, you will go into cardiac arrest. Maybe that's what makes eating a ball so exciting. The risk that you will become silted up and never be able to eat the next ball again. 7.3/10 for the ball. 10/10 for the cafeteria Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Not only did I have a delicious meal, but I also had deep respect for the man and woman who stood there even though they didn't have to do it at all.
