AWARENESS: In April of 2021, my wife and I traveled to Bremerton, WA to attend my sons re-enlistment in the Navy. The ceremony took place around noon and was located in the downtown area, just outside of the shipyard. After the ceremony, my son and his submariner buddies decided to have lunch here at the South Pacific Sports Bar. NARRATIVE: Entering the door to the South Pacific from the outside sunlight, it took a moment for my eyes to adjust. Once seated and focused, I began my "scan" of the place. First thoughts; it's an old school Magnum PI bar. Dark, Tiki lights, grass skirts and lots of bamboo. Finally, the name of the place actually matched the theme. I don't recall what the menu items were but, I do remember they have an extensive bar with lots of options for beers on tap. I was happy when I asked for a Guinness from the tap and they actually had it. Not being too hungry, I ordered a Ruben sandwich. Good call too. It was one of the best Rubens I have ever eaten. The rye bread was cooked to a nice and crispy. The corn beef was piled high inside the bread and of course, all that beef goodness was topped with sauerkraut. The first bite sent juice running down my arm. Can you taste it SCENE: As mentioned above. The South Pacific Sports Bar has that old school Hawaii look and theme behind it and if this place could speak, I'm sure it was have some amazing stories to tell. South Pacific Sports Bar is located on 1st Street, directly across from the ferry terminal at Bremerton. It sit among several other eateries, bars and coffee shops but has an amazing view of the waterfront just outside the front door. Customer Service: We actually had the pleasure of the owner (I don't recall her name) serving us. I did ask her about the place and its history and learned she hadn't owned the place too long. I believe I was told she had just got it up and running then COVID hit and she had to shut dow. I also recall her saying before she bought the place, it was basically abandoned and left in dilapidated. ** CUDOS to the owner for what I and I hope everyone can see is lots of love, hard work and patriotism which went in to making this not only look great, but can now be considered a "good time memory" for our young (and older) service men and women. Your place looks great. The food is great and the beers are cold. All the ingredients needed which make South Pacific Sports Bar a home away from home. RECOMMENDATION(S): A place worth visiting if you're in the Bremerton, Silverdale or Bangor Washington areas.
