½ (2.5/5) We really want to love Southern Roots Smokehouse because we live right around the corner and would love to have a great neighborhood BBQ spot. Unfortunately, our recent visit left us feeling like they’re just missing the mark. We we were disappointed to learn that they changed their fries and no longer have waffle fries because we would get the loaded nachos sub waffle fries, and it was AWESOME!! So, we ordered the brisket meatloaf with hash and rice. The hash was decent, but the rice was noticeably undercooked and hard. We only ate a few bites before giving up on it. The brisket meatloaf was okay, but it tasted much more like regular ground beef than brisket. We also tried the “smoked” chicken wings. We’re honestly not sure if they were actually smoked because they didn’t have much smoke flavor and weren’t particularly tender. The house-made sausage was the biggest disappointment of the meal and was not good at all. On a positive note, the cornbread was good, and our server was hustling and working hard throughout our visit. However, when we mentioned the rice was undercooked, he didn’t seem very concerned, which was disappointing. There are definitely some bright spots here, and we’re hoping this was just an off night because we’d love to become regular customers. For now, though, the food quality and attention to feedback need some improvement. Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

Order this restaurant through DoorDash... I ordered the three meat plate with side collard greens and salad. My first order arrived with just the salad, no dressing, no meats. I asked the dasher, and he said that's what the restaurant gave him. DoorDash refunded my order. I figured it was a one-off fluke, so I ordered the same thing again, and this time the delivery came with the salad, the colored greens, and the pork belly, but not the other two meats. There was a handwritten note on the back of the receipt saying sorry, we are out of pulled pork and sausage. The restaurant should have marked those items as unavailable on DoorDash, then I would not have been able to order them. Second, after the first messed up order, I called the restaurant to ensure that this order would be handled correctly, they could have told me then that they were out of those items. Third, they could have canceled the order, escalated with DoorDash, or messaged me or called me through DoorDash to tell me they were out of those items. To add insult to injury, the salad came with no dressing, and ended up in the trash because of that. I cannot eat dry salad. The pork belly was okay, but I would have liked to have actually eaten dinner, and not an appetizer.

Copying what some else said and saying “poor excuse for barbecue” meat is flavorless and dry, the fries were undercooked and the Mac and cheese came out cold. The atmosphere is absolutely disgusting. I never leave Google reviews but I just had to for this place. I can’t believe it has over 4 star rating lol. Place is a disgrace to barbecue. Save your money and go to home team or Lewis barbecue, I’m not sure how this spots even in business. We sat outside which we thought would be a nice patio, it’s gross out there and people kept coming out from the bar to smoke cigarettes while we’re eating. And the sauces she brought out for the meat were sticky and had flies on them and looked like they haven’t been cleaned in months. On top of this the soda is 8$, it was 16$ totally for two Diet Pepsi’s that’s insane. And our appetizer didn’t come out first as asked and one of our entrees was wrong with to start and they had to remake it. Overall place is terrible. The owner needs to read these reviews lol.
