The Spare Rib is a longtime Commack staple that delivers a solid, old-school steakhouse experience without trying to be anything fancy. The ambiance has that typical steakhouse feel—casual, low-key, and comfortable enough for an easy weeknight dinner. Best dish on the menu? The ribs. (Not a big surprise given the name of the restaurant.) They’re coated in a tangy BBQ sauce, and when they’re done right, the meat practically falls off the bone. The Prime Rib is another popular choice, slow roasted for 16 hours and definitely worth considering if you’re not in the mood for BBQ. Side dishes are mostly the usual suspects: corn, baked potato, steak fries, sweet potato fries, etc. Nothing particularly adventurous, but plenty of familiar options to round out the meal. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. They also have a weekday Happy Hour from 4pm–6pm with buy one, get one half off, which makes stopping in early an especially good value. Overall, The Spare Rib is a decent, affordable neighborhood restaurant. Not necessarily a destination dining experience, but a dependable choice when you’re craving ribs or a traditional steakhouse-style meal. The Spare Rib is iconic in the sense you know exactly what to expect - Ribs, steak, chicken, bbq any style. Reasonably priced and a cut above bar food. Good themed cocktails, tap beers and the servers are friendly. We went at 6:30pm and closed up the place at 8:30 (they actually close at 8). Service is medium quick and food is just under a fine dining restaurant. BUT, you can't beat the bbq and that's what we wanted. Spare Rib delivered! Price per person: $20–30
