The ratings on this is from a recent visit over the weekend. We’ve been coming to this restaurant for many years 10+ to be exact and, until this visit, we’ve never had a bad meal. We would usually look forward to coming. But, this experience was very disappointing over the weekend. Probably this review is based off one bad meal but to us it was how the issue was dealt with. Both my dad and I ordered the lamb shank as well as my mum. Our usual meals when we have visited. When my dads and mine arrived it wasn’t hot enough, it was barely warm. The chips were hotter than the lamb which was shocking. My Mums was hot enough. So my dad and myself sent both meals back expecting fresh replacements. Instead, it appeared that the same meals had simply been reheated and brought back to us. We were told they had been reheated in the oven rather than the microwave, but based on the condition of the meal, we found that difficult to believe. We understand that the lamb is prepared before service and then warmed when ordered. However, having the same meal warmed a second time after being sent back was simply not acceptable. As a result, the lamb was dry and nowhere near the quality we’ve always enjoyed at this restaurant. It should never have been reheated the second time. Our server was polite, apologetic, and did everything she could, so this review is not a reflection of them. Our disappointment was with the higher management. At no point did we receive what felt like a genuine apology, and when we questioned what had happened, we were never offered freshly prepared replacement meals. To their credit, they refunded my dad’s meal, which was acceptable. But not mine, even though we experienced exactly the same issue. That inconsistency was difficult to understand. But still doing this no apology was given. What was most frustrating was that another table had ordered the lamb shanks and you could see the steam coming off them. How come ours was not like this? It’s such a shame because this has been one of our favourite restaurants for years. We sincerely hope management takes feedback like this on board and returns to the high standards that kept us coming back for so long. As I don’t think we will be rushing back. I am not sure if it is a different chef, but things need to change. Customer service from higher management needs to be looked into. The way complaints are dealt with. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £50–60

Possibly the best pub food abd service ive had this year (and I eat out alot). Whilst tidy, The Star Inn doesnt look like anything other than your typical village pub. Yet, the moment you walk through the door, and your warmly greeted by regulars, locals abd those (like us) who have travelled because of the reviews of the food. A delightful welcome also has we ordered drinks, and confirmed our reservation (highly recommended, owing to popularity) and invited to take a seat in the bar to browse a fabulous menu. Once our starters were almost ready, we were politely invited through to a spacious dining room ready for our banquet. And banquet it was. Well presented food, that was served from a team of delightful and friendly staff. Plentiful, great quality and perfectly cooked food, fit for a King. Although busy (a Saturday evening) we weren't rushed, and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful of our three course meals. And when it came to paying, pleasantly surprised.... The Star Inn is a delightful village pub, with a great range of drinks, a fabulous menu and a first class team, thats certainly competing (and winning) with the very best of restaurants. Thank you one and all - we shall definitely be back. Price per person: £30–40
