Having had almost 30 years’ experience working in renowned sushi restaurants in Taipei, the owner-chef opened here in 2017. The décor is traditionally Japanese, with solid wood countertops imported from Canada. He insists on shipping the fish from Japan three times a week and his rice is seasoned with three different kinds of vinegar... Узнать больше

The 11,000 TWD Per Person Disappointment: A Soulless, Sand-Filled Evening at Sushi Ryu. A high-end sushi meal should be an exercise in absolute precision, but Taipei’s Michelin-starred Sushi Ryu proved to be an overpriced masterclass in culinary neglect. At a staggering 11,000 TWD per person, expectations were reasonably high for flawless execution and attentive hospitality. Instead, the evening descended into the single worst fine-dining experience I have ever endured in the city, defined by gritty seafood, un-fresh ingredients, and a chef who flat-out ignored direct customer requests. The Food: Gritty Shellfish and Stale UniFor a restaurant operating at this extreme price tier, the fundamental basics of seafood preparation should be beyond reproach. At Sushi Ryu, they were treated as an afterthought: A Gritty Disaster: The absolute lowest point of the meal came with the shellfish. It had not been properly cleaned, leaving a distinct, crunching texture of sand in almost every single bite. Finding sand in premium seafood is an amateur mistake that completely ruins the palate. Subpar Freshness: Across the board, the fish selection sat firmly at a medium quality level at best. It completely lacked the clean, vibrant, and pristine flavor characteristic of truly premium catches.Saddening Uni: The uni (sea urchin), which should be a sweet, creamy highlight of any high-end omakase, was a bitter disappointment. It tasted noticeably un-fresh, lacking that bright oceanic sweetness and leaving a flat, unappetizing aftertaste. The Service: Ignored Requests and Bloated RiceThe most frustrating aspect of the evening was the chef’s complete disregard for basic customer service. We explicitly requested smaller portions of shari (sushi rice) to better balance the fish and pacing of the meal. This is a routine, globally accepted custom at any reputable sushi counter. The chef completely ignored this request, continuously serving massive, heavy balls of rice that overwhelmed the mediocre cuts of fish. It felt less like a tailored dining experience and more like an assembly line designed to fill us up on cheap carbs as quickly as possible. The Verdict: Way Overpriced for Zero ValueFood Quality: 2/10Service & Execution: 1/10Value for Money: AbysmalFinal Word: Charging 11,000 TWD for a measly 10 pieces of poorly prepared, sand-filled sushi is nothing short of highway robbery. Sushi Ryu fails on freshness, execution, and basic hospitality.台北有太多更優秀的選擇,千萬不要浪費錢在這裡。(Taipei has plenty of far better options; do not waste your money here.) Visited for lunch set menu NT$5,000, had to make advanced booking. Sushi was OK only, lots of sushi, nothing special out of norm, no unique special dishes too. Almost all sushi was made by the chef's assistants, chef was largely reliant on assistants and staff. Assistant was very friendly and service was very good otherwise. At this price point, can have much better Michelin star omakase in Taiwan, have tried better ones. Largely disappointing. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $2,000+ Food: 3 Atmosphere: 2
