2 friends and myself met last Saturday at 430p to try a new place, if you can't find it, it's in Boomers Lounge. We decided to order a Thai chicken pizza and sampler platter to split. We ordered drinks, then received our platter, it consisted of pork eggrolls, one of my friends does not eat pork as it makes her sick. Chicken mini tacos that are frozen, jalapeño Mexican corn dip- corn was frozen, tasted frozen and no spice, fried cauliflower and cheese curds which we decent, and duck Rangoons, salsa was bland, duck Rangoon had frozen corn also. Pizza came too table, 2 minutes later it was cold in middle and tasted of being frozen. When you say Korean tex mex, I would think it's not microwaved or frozen bar food. The plates we got were plastic appetizer ones. Also my friend asked for lemons for her water, as WDM water tastes different, and the bartender brought them out in his hands, no napkon, no plate.. just his hands.. I won't go back

I'll readily admit I'm kind of a Jenny Symonds fan boy.  I can't say I've ever been served anything in a restaurant she's had her hands in that I haven't enjoyed.  And she's just the kind of person who you can't help but like.  It was a pleasure running into her again when I stopped by to check out Tako Tex Mex + Korean BBQ. Tako is located at 50th and EP True in West Des Moines.  Basically the old Saints and Taco Hangover location.  Now Boomer's Bicycle Lounge.  The kitchen runs from behind the bar on the patio.  One of the best patios in West Des Moines. The food today truly met my expectations.  Everything was delicious.  I had a lobster tako (Right), a K beef tako (middle), a spicy pork tako (Left), an appetizer of lucky duck rangoons, and a Pepsi. I walked into the patio and made my way to a seat at the bar.  The bartender (Julie I think?) greeted me right away, asked me about a drink, and if I was looking to eat lunch.  A menu was already placed nearby that I was able to grab. Where to start? Everything was cooked well and there were a plethora of flavors.  Most I already knew, but each item had its own little twist because of the fusion of two cuisines. The lucky duck rangoons were savory.  Not the sweet rangoons a lot of us are accustomed to.  With the corn and bacon it kind of reminded me of a cross between a crab rangoon and a Southwest egg roll.  The orange sauce lended a little heat and some sweetness.  I REALLY liked this item. I ate my tacos in the following order...and this is just about how I'd rank them.  Lobster, then K beef, and finally spicy pork. The lobster and K beef tacos were really good.  The lobster and beef were cooked perfectly.  The flavors melded and bounced off of one another.  And then I got to the spicy pork.  This taco is not for the faint of heart.  It's messy and brings the heat.  In my serving this taco was the one literally stacked with meat and was an awesome finisher to a very good meal.  It was easily my favorite of the three.  The sauces and seasoning in all of them hit their mark. The presentation of all the items looked great.  Service was attentive and the food came out fresh and hot. If you're a big eater the prices can seem a little high depending on what you order v. the size of the item.  The menu has good variety and a range of price points.  I can honestly say the prices of what I ordered lined up with their quality.  It was an expensive lunch, but not one I walked away disappointed from.  The food, Julie's service, and running into Jenny again sent me back to work with a smile. takolyfe.com facebook.com/TaKoLyfe
