What a great little find. We spent a fantastic 2 hours in the bar, drinking and listening to some jazz music. The owner doesn't speak too much English but with the help of Google translate we managed to discuss a shared love of jazz music. A relaxed comfy place, away from the chaotic streets. Price per person: ¥4,000–5,000 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I wanted to come by for a drink. I entered the place calm and politely with a bow and a smile and said konbanwa and yoroshiku onegaishimasu, the polite phrases i had learned in Japanese. But the owner was immediately showing arrogance and just said cash only, in a frustrated voice as if he wanted me to leave. The place was empty and I could have been a customer but he scared me away. Price per person: ¥3,000–4,000

Bar Talisker in Kyoto is a truly unique experience. The drinks were incredibly upscale, beautifully crafted, and clearly made with a lot of skill. One of the standout touches was the presentation, they served tiny, fancy dessert bites along with super cold, small glasses of water, which added a luxurious feel. The ambiance is striking: a dark, old-school, English-style bar rather than traditional Kyoto vibes. It’s intimate, polished, and has that classic “proper bar” atmosphere. A couple of notes for visitors: it did feel a bit pretentious, almost like they weren’t totally excited to have us there,. not rude, just a subtle vibe. Also, there were no prices listed, and the bill was definitely on the higher side. Still, the quality and uniqueness of the experience made it feel worth it overall. If you’re looking for an elegant, English-inspired bar with superb drinks and meticulous presentation, Bar Talisker is absolutely worth a stop.
