I was actually questioning whether or not I would be able to get this done today - I needed a bank letter from a teller and they don't really have tellers. However, the representative was very kind and was able to get it done for me. So even though Tangerine doesn't have many locations, when you do need something it's still possible if you can get to one of the two locations.
Colour me impressed. For all the wrong reasons. The Tangerine Café space is well-designed and comfortable, but I've never encountered such surly customer service from any of the Big 5 banks, or even a Scarbz McCafé at that. Sure, we hate it when the other banks upsell and have sales quotas, but at least you got a pretense of friendliness. Since when did no fees equate to no service? Having worked in retail banking in another life, I get that it can be soul-sucking and boring, but at least we had the decency to pretend. Adding insult to the injury, their ATMs were down and we were pawned off to a Scotiabank four blocks away to complete the account opening process. At the green place, we also knew what it meant to be apologetic. Thank god there's so few Tangerine coffeehouses (coffee, where?) because they've the best online banking experience - why sully it with the unpredictability of staff that slept through training and development.
I've been to this cafe a couple of times for various reasons. The staff here are cheerful and always willing to help. There's adequate seating and even 2 ATMs in the entrance area. Sometimes they hold fundraisers or special events here which is nice, given their accessibility and open space. I opened a bank account with them due to their high interest rates on savings accounts (before they were acquired by Scotiabank) and they offer a plethora of free services that you would end up paying for at other banks. You can push/pull money from external accounts, EMT money to individuals for free and there's even a no fee cash back credit card. Having access to Scotiabank ATMs is also a plus. Pros: Café is highly accessible downtown, across from the Eaton Centre (bright orange, you can't miss it!) Highly competitive interest rates on all accounts Friendly and helpful customer service Access to Scotiabank ATMs Cons: Not many physical locations As a result, there's a lot of services that you must be self-sufficient in doing yourself (via online, or through the App).
