Overall, this was a disappointing meal. The food was decent, but wasn’t at the level I’d expect for the price point. Tabelog of 3.53 feels accurate. Some pieces were a hair overcooked and a bit greasy. The pace was far too fast and the service haphazard. The latter leading to two problems: 1. The vegetarian diner in our group was served tempura with fish in it for the rice course. An apology and offer to remake the dish was offered. We were also not charged the vegetarian surcharge but it’s unclear if it’s because of this, they forgot, or that we had the most expensive menu. 2. We ordered a bottle of sake on the second last course and were served 25% of it with the bottle left in another room. Our glasses sat empty and were eventually cleared. The bill came and the full bottle was on it. When we raised the issue they expected us to just take the bottle home instead of taking it off the bill. There were some awkward exchanges and possibly some misunderstandings, but their final expectation was that we pay for two individual servings (53% of the bottle) and take the bottle with us. It was too awkward to do anything but pay (we left the bottle) and the whole experience really tainted the meal. Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Worst tempura ever!!! For dinner in Feb 2023, had to choose the same set course of Yen 15,000 for 2 persons (can't choose other courses). The ingredients of each course were poorly selected for the season, of poor quality & worse of all poorly cut by the chef resulting in a sub standard presentation on the plate. The chef & assistant chef used their fingers to place each piece on our plate (instead of using the long metal serving chopsticks)...it was quite disgusting & unbelievable for a restaurant that is rated as one of the top 2 tempura restaurants in Kyoto! (we tried the other one called Yoshikawa several years ago which was much better). The batter & oil used for the frying were awful resulting in each item having no taste at all. In terms of service...all the staff were not trained to serve properly in a high end tempura restaurant...they would come from both sides & remove items when we had not finished eating or not come to clear items when we had finished. Also the chefs did not tell us what each item served was nor which sauce or salt to use for each item...we had to ask repeatedly what the items were & which sauce or salt to use so that by the end of the meal we were totally exhausted & fed up. When the meal was almost over for all the guests at the counter & we were still eating our desserts & tea...the chefs started to clean up the stove right in front of us instead of waiting for all guests to leave before cleaning up & packing up. Lastly the restaurant interior design was badly made...at the counter you couldn't see the deep frying of the tempura as it was blocked & lighting was so dark you couldn't see what was on your plate. The meal cost us almost Yen 35,000 & a total waste of money...I pay much less for the best tempura in Tokyo in comparison. Will never go again & Ten You does not deserve their ranking as one of top 2 tempura restaurants in Kyoto. No skills, no quality, no presentation, no service!!! and finally over priced!!!
