My nephew and I stopped by for his birthday lunch. He ordered the brisket mac and cheese and peach pie. I got the sausage slaw and potato salad. Both types of sausage were delicious! I almost bought another one. As for my nephew, his food looked good. He said the brisket wasn't juicy but it looked just fine to me.Both plates came with a large square of SWEET cornbread. My issues were the choice of cheese used for the Mac. It tasted like it was pimento cheese. Having lived in Texas for a little while,I was disappointed to find out that the sausage was not house made. This doesn't take a aw from the fact that overall I found everything was good. Price per person: $20–30

We visited The BBQ Lab in Raleigh for my birthday dinner. My birthday fell on a Monday this year, and because my usual go-to Texas-style brisket spots in the area are closed on Mondays, we decided to give this location a try. The Ambiance & Service: On the positive side, the restaurant features a fun, casual, and inviting atmosphere. The front-of-house staff members were overall very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. The Location Comparison: We have previously eaten at the original Redneck BBQ Lab in Benson, North Carolina. We had heard rumors from locals that this newer Raleigh location wasn't quite up to par with the Benson flagship store, and unfortunately, our meal confirmed that to be true. The Smoked Meats: The brisket was just okay; it was slightly dry and lacked that rich, melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness that I crave with high-quality brisket. The ribs were a major disappointment—they were dry, slightly rubbery, and almost completely inedible. This was honestly the first time I think I have ever left ribs behind at a barbecue meal. The Southern Sides: The side dishes were a mixed bag. The green beans were truly amazing and the standout item of the night. The fried okra was decent but just okay. However, the cornbread was very dense, dry, and lacked the flavor profiles you usually expect. The venue itself has a great vibe and friendly service, but the kitchen's smoking execution and execution on the meats definitely need a boost in consistency to match the legendary reputation of the Benson location." Me and my coworkers came in back in late January several times while we were in town and the food was amazing! The staff was very friendly towards us and gave us some great recommendations based on what everyone liked. The best bbq I’ve ever had.
