I have previously been here when it was called "Seventeen" - a far more opulent version than what is now The Lanting. Previously the offering under Seventeen was aspiring to be a Royal China of Notting Hill, but it was too pretentious with its direct-from-China statues, chic neon bar downstairs and cumbersome array of crockery, not to mention the overpriced menu of all things Chinese. That's all in the past, with The Lanting shedding all that faux grandeur for cheap set menus of take away quality food served on plates. The restaurant has gone belly up as of this review, the locals weren't inspired by the nosedive to cheap eats.

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants in the neighbourhood in its earlier guise of 17. But since it changed the food and service has declined considerably. I have given it two points purely based on it's former reputation. It was certainly some of the most authentic Chinese in London. It still seems to have much the same menu which is why I continued to frequent the place after the change. But the drop in quality was noticeable. I don't know if I had a bad experience but it happened the times. The last time it was a take away order that I placed for delivery. They took 2 hours and Even then the food did not arrive.
I might try the place out one more time just to see if the problems were just temPorary and if they have refined the old touch because the food was always so good. Then again l might not.

Was nice enough. Not spectacular for the price but the food was tasty and prompt. Some interesting items on the menu for the more adventurous...
