This place just feels so calming and lovely! The service is top notch! You must have the stuffed French toast, thank me later. Can't wait to return. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $80–90

A holiday afternoon tea that our family had been looking forward to turned into a deeply disappointing experience due to how it was handled. We had a prepaid afternoon tea reservation for five. On the day of our reservation, two family members were diagnosed with COVID, and we immediately contacted the hotel by email, phone, and voicemail because we did not want to put other guests or staff at risk. Despite acting responsibly, we were told our reservation could not be canceled due to policy. Rescheduling was a no, refund was a no. We asked whether the reservation could simply be reduced to the healthy family members, but that request was declined. Instead, we were told that while only the healthy family members could attend, we would still be charged for the full reservation, and the afternoon tea for the absent guests would have to be taken to go. It was difficult to comprehend the purpose of attending what had been planned as a long-awaited family gathering with only part of our family. In the end, we attended with the healthy family members and took the remaining afternoon tea to go. We had been regular guests, returning several times a year for afternoon tea. Unfortunately, this experience was so disappointing that we have not returned since. I did not expect to feel penalized for being transparent and responsible in a health-related situation. Policies like this place guests in an impossible position: either attend while sick or accept a significant financial loss. I hope management will reconsider how situations like this are handled in the future. As for the afternoon tea itself, the food was also disappointing. For our 4:00 p.m. seating, the sandwiches were noticeably dry and did not taste fresh. I do want to recognize our server, Ray, who was professional, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout. Unfortunately, his outstanding service was overshadowed by the way this situation was handled by management. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: $100+

Christmas Eve breakfast at The Lobby has become one of my favorite traditions with my in-laws. We usually return to the same large table, which comfortably accommodates our growing family and several small children. The staff is consistently gracious, polished, and remarkably patient with the kids. I usually order the delicious huevos rancheros, while the pancakes and Bloody Mary are also family favorites. Entering through the hallway, with greenery and white lights covering the ceiling, immediately creates a feeling of elegance and warmth. The Lobby itself has soaring ceilings and enormous windows, which keep the room bright, fresh, and energetic even in the middle of winter. A miniature gingerbread house filled with candy reliably delights the children, and each year the restaurant seems to gather more momentum. Having a Hong Kong brand this sought after put down roots in the city where I grew up feels like a genuine gift. Nearly two decades ago, long before these Christmas Eve breakfasts began, I visited the hotel’s bar with colleagues and remember being struck by how chic and sophisticated it felt. I have not returned to the bar since, and it now appears to be closed, so that impression belongs entirely to an earlier period, but the hotel itself has aged incredibly well. Its common spaces still feel like a glimpse into the future, evoking the steel, glass, ambition, and commercial energy I associate with Hong Kong’s remarkable rise as a global center of commerce. Although I have never stayed overnight, the service, dining, and design reflect the standards of one of hospitality’s preeminent brands, with roots extending back to the 19th century and, from my perspective, a standing as the benchmark among Asian hotel operators.
