My wife and I used to enjoy dining at Murphy's during its years in the Willow Springs Shopping Center. It was within easy walking distance of our home and had reliably good cuisine and a charming and friendly atmosphere. We were disappointed when it went out of business, and then hopeful later when it was replaced by The Local. Unfortunately, The Local did not live up to the quality of Murphy's. We went once and never again. Last night, May 18, 2026, we tried The Lowdown for the first time. Our son was visiting from Hawaii, and all three of us agreed that the quality of food, service, and ambiance were excellent and that it was a worthy and welcome replacement for Murphy's. We definitely will return. Before giving a review of the food and service, I wish to comment on the posted negative reviews about The Lowdown and caution readers about succumbing to negativity bias. That's what humans have a tendency to do - embrace and dwell upon, if not obsess about, negative comments to the exclusion of the positive. I did it before last night's dinner, and I'm an attorney and author and should know better. I'm not trying to denigrate the experiences of those who gave negative or less than favorable reviews. I'm just advising that you look at the positive reviews and give them fair consideration and then go to The Lowdown and make your own decision. Now, about the food. Is it haute cuisine? No, of course not. If you want to shed your hard-earned funds on large plates of little food, go somewhere else. We started with a plate of Buffalo Wings with bleu cheese sauce. The portion was generous, plenty for the three of us, and the wings were perfectly prepared - delicious. My son and I had the Bleu Cheese & Tomato Jam Burger. We ordered the burger medium rare. It was delicious and exactly as ordered - truly medium rare. I had fries that were crispy on the outside and again delicious. My son had a salad that was a mix of fresh greens and tomatoes. My wife ordered the fish and chips. The cod was nicely crusted and delicious on the inside. Finally, I want to complement our wait person, Sam. She was professional, polite, and friendly. Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere is stylish, warm, and feels thoughtfully designed from the moment you walk in. Even the women’s bathroom was incredibly cool and beautifully done — every detail felt intentional. The food was excellent across the board, and the service was impeccable: attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling overbearing. You can tell this restaurant really cares about the full experience. Definitely one of the best new spots I’ve been to lately, and I’ll absolutely be back. Locally owned and operated too! This place is a gem. The ambiance inside is relaxed and inviting, with a hidden garden patio in the back that feels like a secret escape. Nicole, the bartender, was fantastic. The small plates were excellent, and the Unbeetable cocktail was the standout. Definitely looking forward to coming back. Price per person: $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
