What a disappointment. I was looking forward to this restaurant . The appetizers were good. The halibut dish (49$) special was very fishy in smell and taste. Could not eat it. I was very nervous about getting sick over bad fish. The special dessert strawberries shortcake had an onion taste to it. They must of used the same knife when cutting onions. The best is that charged me when they saw that I didn’t touch the halibut dish. Never would go back or recommend. Plenty of great restaurants in the area. This is the Standard in the American Hotel in Freehold. Correct???? I was with 6 other people that could attest to that. The halibut and strawberry shortcake were the special of the day I guess. Price per person: $90–100 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

I'm sorry but I think you have the wrong place. We do not have halibut or shortbread on the menu. Please remove this review. Thank you

The Standard at the American Hotel is a cool little gem in Freehold. The menu has a solid variety, and the seafood really stands out. I met up with an old friend and we shared an oyster tower and the burrata, both excellent. Our server, Rose, really knew the menu and made great recommendations for both food and drinks. She even helped tailor a surf and turf for us. The lobster was outstanding and the steak was just as good. Everything had great flavor and presence. They also have a strong drink selection for every part of the meal, including port wines. We finished with an apple strudel that was a standout. Parking wasn’t too bad for the area, though it is paid Thursday through Saturday. Definitely a spot I’d recommend. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $90–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

The service was outstanding, Paris gave exceptional attention to detail and helped to make my daughter’s 18th birthday celebration fantastic! George, the pianist, was absolutely fabulous! What a beautiful voice, and musical talent! So attentive in asking us, since our table was adjacent to the piano, what our music preferences were, truly went above and beyond. He made the evening an absolutely delightful and memorable celebration! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $30–40
