Stayed in the Victoria Suite which was so thoughtfully decorated in June 2026, and really enjoyed it! It was extremely clean, with lots of fun touches, and impressive wallpaper, and furnishings – my favorite part was the gorgeous clawfoot tub in one of the two bathrooms in this two bedroom suite with a living area. We were somewhat discouraged from visiting the glowworm caves, but found a glow worm wall near Hokitaka, which is about 15 to 20 minutes down the road. This . Decor of this room made it very different from any of the others and was a fun part of the New Zealand experience!

Me and my family came for a casual drink and pizza. The dining area felt so homley and comfortable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, especially near the fire. The server was happy to take a photo of us at the table. The pizza was lovely and the cabonara was delicious. Wow what a great experience we had. Thanks to the lovely staff

We thoroughly recommend the Theatre Royal Hotel. Having stopped in there for lunch on a previous trip we were keen to go back for a stay and were not disappointed. The hotel has been lovingly restored retaining many of its period features. Our room was clean and cosy and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and engaging throughout our stay. Top marks to manager Barbara and Sinny in the restaurant was a delight. The row of awards on the mantle piece were well and truly deserved. We’ll most certainly be back having already planned for early next year if not before as well. 5* all round
