If the Detmold resident wants to go out for a meal, tasty, cozy and with an Austrian touch, he visits Theotmalli on Meierstraße not far from the Detmold market square. The landlord and chef comes from Austria. And yes, you can taste it. The “Viennese style” schnitzels offered on the menu are carefully pared by hand, pounded thin, carefully breaded and fried until golden brown. They are in no way inferior to an original Viennese veal schnitzel, except that they are cheaper and can also be ordered in small portions. Plus croquettes, hash browns or fries with mushroom cream sauce, tomatoes and cheese gratin, anchovies and capers, cognac pepper cream sauce: everything is extremely tasty and you can tell the chef's love for his job and his guests. This is also particularly evident in the four soups on offer. Anyone who serves their guests such delicious goulash soup, cream of potato soup, great chicken broth and a French-style onion soup delicately seasoned with wine deserves to be praised. The cozy taproom and, last but not least, the excellent service go well with all of this. Always a complete pleasure. And if you don't have an appetite for schnitzel, you can order fried potatoes with egg, matjes fillet “Hausfrauen Style”, hunter's steak or pork fillet or the grandiose combination of ham, pineapple gratinated with cheese, called “Hawaii” toast, invented by Clemens Wilmenrod.
