My husband and I had an absolutely lovely meal at Usuya, and it was an experience full of hospitality and delicious Unagi. The restaurant was warm, and felt authentic, and admittedly it can be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it as it is tucked away in the lovely Sanjo shopping district. The owner was incredibly kind and she took the time to explain the menu to us, and ensure that we knew what our options were. She even took the time to answer my questions about the Narazuke (pickles) served with our meal. The Unagi bowl provided a generous portion of eel, that was cooked so delightfully perfect, and warmed our bellies after a long day. I think this may have been one of the best meals I've ever had! We are so grateful for the kindness, hospitality, and delicious meal we experienced at Usuya and highly recommend coming here if you are in the area. This is a little restaurant filled with locals. I wanted something authentic and non touristy. It felt like we were in their kitchen or dining room. I ate a half bowl of the eel and rice and wish I ordered a whole bowl. My wife ate off of their daily specials menu. A grilled salted fish. We loved it so much! We would definitely eat here again.
