We have been using the Vauxhall Inn for numerous years now. The re-decoration has really modernised the restaurant area making it much lighter and brighter. Party of 4 @ 7.30pm. Drinks & food were ordered shortly after seating. The food arrived quickly. It was ok. Not up to its usual fresh high standard. And the portion sizes were much smaller than have ever had on previous visits (the time before tonight was only in January) and I mean significantly smaller, the plates were half empty & the presentation also let it down. But, the Clementine tart was absolutely delicious. I could've eaten it twice! Without any hesitation Clive changed the raspberry sorbet to the coconut/vanilla ice cream for me. On the plus side the customer service from Clive was excellent. We were well looked after all throughout our meal by Clive. Every need met. He was polite, professional and friendly. He made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much bother for him. He went above and beyond. Please ensure the praise reaches him as its much deserved! Clive is a credit to your company. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £20–30 Recommendation for vegetarians: Somewhat recommend Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labelled vegetarian dishes Vegetarian options: Tonight (23.3.26) Food was not great and not up to the usual high standard. Very small portions & poor presentation of main courses tonight. Chips tasted as if cooked in old oil. Desserts were great. Great customer service by Clive. Dietary restrictions: N/A Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free of charge parking lot Parking: Great location. Easy to park. Close to home which is why we frequent quite regularly. After our meals this evening will be reluctant to return which is a shame.

We had originally booked a meal for our family (10 members) at 5.30pm. Some days after booking, the Vauxhall contacted us requesting that we arrive early at 5pm as they had another group who were booked for 6.30pm. They also wanted to know which meals were required in advance - with which we complied. We all arrived by 5pm and waited for the pre-ordered combined starter platters. They arrived just after 5.30pm. This was all good quality, especially the baked camembert, and good value. This was finished by 5,50pm and we had a 45 minutes wait before the main meals started arriving. There was quite a gap between them being served , with my wife having ordered the same as mine, which was delivered - sea bass and scallops. Mine was only one outstanding of the ten. After another 10 minutes, a young man called Jamie, who had introduced himself as we arrived as being Area Office staff, came to my end of the table and informed that they had run out of scallops and would it be alright if they were replaced by king prawns, promising two extra if I would co-operate. I had received no previous notice of this even though by now it was well after the 6.30pm by which we had been told that we needed to finish! When the meal finally arrived just before 7pm, several of the group had already finished their main course and frankly my meal was very disappointing - the sea bass was old, the king prawns (totalling four) were over-cooked with shells that were very hard to remove. I noticed that when I stacked the plates to simplify collection after the meal that several had left a good proportion of their chips. When Jamie asked whether we enjoyed the meal, I told him about how disappointed with my meal I was and expressed surprise at how unappetising the chips were. All he said was that the "chips were McCains" and thus "top-class". The desserts took almost another 30 minutes to appear. Most looked good, but again mine - the bakewell tart was miniscule - a thin sliver with a maximum width of 3cm - scarcely three mouthfuls, We finally left at 7.45pm and no-one expressed any satisfaction with the meal, with exception of the starter, and everyone was united in expressing their disappointment with the slow service. It was particularly annoying as my nephew was originally going to come with his partner, but because he would not have been able to arrive until 6pm, which if we knew in advance how slow the presentation was, would have easily made his presence possible. When I think back to the delicious food that we enjoyed years ago and the excellent and efficient service, there was no comparison. I was not responsible for the bill, but I understand that no adjustment was made. John Lawrence (Rev)
