As someone who loves food, I've had my eye on Vitrine Kitchen for quite a while. Their fun and fearless approach to food always caught my eye. So, I was excited a few moths ago when I got to check out the restaurant in person with my wife and our three-year-old. Stepping in for lunch, we were greeted by a cool, open vibe and loads of sunlight through the big windows. The tables were neat and had plenty of space around them, which made the whole dining area feel comfy and relaxed. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. They didn't have a high chair for our little one though. When it came to the food, we decided to go for four different items on the menu. We started with the pizza Margherita, a classic that's always a good test for any kitchen. Next up, we tried a fusion dish, the kal-joosh calzone, which sounded pretty interesting. The main course was the special of the day, a pasta dish called pappardelle, and to wash it all down, we ordered a rosemary tonic. The pizza Margherita was pretty good-looking, with a nicely charred crust that gave off strong Neapolitan vibes. The crust was nice and thin in the middle. The tomato sauce was super simple and fresh, which I loved. But, the mozzarella didn't quite hit the mark for me as it wasn't as stretchy as I'd like. All in all, I'd give the pizza a 4 out of 5. The kal-joosh calzone was a surprise hit. I loved the roasted eggplant and caramelized onion toppings; they really worked well together. This dish was a great example of fusion done right, and the flavors were spot on. It definitely deserves a 5 out of 5. Next, the pappardelle dish didn't quite live up to the hype. The pasta was overcooked, which was a letdown. The white sauce tasted a bit undercooked and didn't stick to the pasta properly, which was a bummer. Plus, the ‘bacon’ was overseasoned, which kind of took over the dish. The fact that it was also pretty pricey didn't help either. So, I'd have to give it a 1 out of 5. The rosemary tonic was refreshing but came out a bit warmer than I'd prefer. The flavor was still nice though, so I'd rate it a 3 out of 5. Considering everything, I'd say my overall experience at Vitrine Kitchen was decent but had its ups and downs. I'd give it a 3 out of 5. They've got potential for sure and did some things really well, but there is lots of room for improvement.
